Venus Retrograde
If suddenly what's
going on in your
relationships seems
out of whack or you
just find yourself
wondering what it is
you actually want,
or you've been
rethinking your
finances or spending
habits, you've been
experiencing the
effects of Venus
Retrograde.
First What is
Retrograde?
While planets follow
the same direction
in the sky as they
revolve around the
Sun, sometimes
planets appear to
stop in their motion
and go backwards
before going
forwards again.
This is much like
what happens when we
pass a car on the
road. As we move
forward, it appears
as if the car we
pass is moving
backward while we
are moving forward.
This, of course, is
an illusion. And
this illusion occurs
precisely the same
way when planets
change positions in
their orbits.
Venus Retrograde
Symbolism - the
5-Pointed Star
Venus turns
Retrograde (appears
to move backwards in
the sky) every one
and a half years.
The last time Venus
turned Retrograde in
Scorpio was October,
2002. Other Venus
Retrogrades in this
century include
Aries in 2001,
Gemini in 2004,
Aquarius into
Capricorn in
December 2005 to
January 2006, Virgo
into Leo in 2007,
Aries into Pisces in
2009. If you trace
out these signs in
the Zodiac, you'll
see that Venus
traces out a
five-pointed star (a
pentagram) as it
edges backward.
The pentagram has a
long history. In
Ancient Mesopotamia
during the Age of
Taurus (an age is
approximately 2,150
years) the pentagram
was a symbol of
imperial power.
Taurus is the sign
ruled by Venus and
this was the age of
the feminine.
Unlike today, the
goddess, land,
agriculture, and
fertility were
revered.
In the following Age
of Aries (ages move
backwards in the
Zodiac) among
ancient Hebrews, the
symbol of the
pentagram was
ascribed to truth.
Truth was seen to be
represented by the
five books of the
Old Testament:
Genesis, Exodus,
Leviticus, Numbers,
and Deuteronomy.
In pagan tradition,
the five-pointed
star represents
spirit and the four
earthly materials.
The top is spirit,
the sides are and
water, and the
bottom are fire and
earth. For Muslims
the five point
correspond with the
five pillars of
faith. For
Christians the five
points correspond
with the five wounds
of Christ.
Venus Retrograde
October 8 to
November 18, 2010
For we mortals,
Retrograde cycles
are times of
re-evaluation.
Since Venus is the
planet that rules
love, sociability,
and money, its
Retrograde motions
puts these issues on
the table. It's
time to evaluate the
real value of people
and possessions as
Venus moves from
Scorpio into Libra.
Scorpio is the sign
that has to do with
both passion and
other people's
money. Venus, the
ruler of Libra,
represents
relationships, so
this is a double
whammy.
Scorpio is the
natural ruler of the
eighth house in the
horoscope. The
eighth house
represents what we
derive from
relationships—whether
that's sex,
inheritances, or
shared finances.
Venus Retrograde in
Scorpio makes it
time to contemplate
these matters. On
the financial end,
it may be time to
think about whom to
leave your
inheritance or about
changing around your
investments. It's
best to actually
make the changes
after Venus turns
Direct. On the more
personal side, it
may be time to
contemplate your
intimate
relationships,
emotions and
passions, and
sexuality, and how
you handle control
and jealousy issues
within
relationships.
Libra is the natural
ruler of the seventh
house, which
represents marriage,
partnership, and all
one-to-one
relationships. This
makes it time to
re-evaluate
relationships in
general. Is there a
need for more
harmony and
cooperation? And if
there is, what can
you do about it?
This Retrograde
cycle is favorable
for clearing up old
debts, whether you
owe someone money or
an apology.
This cycle most
strongly affects you
if you were born, or
have planets, in
late Libra or early
to mid-Scorpio.
There's some
positive
reinforcement if you
were born, or have
planets in, late
Gemini or Aquarius,
or early to mid
Cancer or Pisces.
You may be
experiencing more
difficulties if you
were born, or have
planets in, late
Aries, Cancer, or
Capricorn or early
Taurus, Leo, or
Aquarius.
